Fincantieri has more than 40 years of experience in design and manufacturing of fin stabilizer systems. This enabled fincantieri to develop a range of stabilizers capable of assuring the highest roll reduction at design speed, high reliability and minimum noise and vibration.
Active fin stabilization system: active fin stabilizers are recognized as the most efficient system available to marine technology today, to ensure a drastic reduction in roll with the consequent advantages in terms of comfort to passengers and ship’s crew.
Ship stability, course keeping: in severe sea conditions, rolling may make it necessary for a ship to deviate from her planned course to avoid the rough sea with consequent loss of time and money. Besides, in naval vessels, heavy rolling may affect the accuracy of the weapon system or prevent the landing or take off of helicopters or airplanes.
The best system for each application: Fincantieri fin stabilizer systems can meet customer requirements in relation to vessel shape, speed, position of the stabilizer fins, dimensions.
SR type
Each fin, either the flapped SRA type or unflapped SRO type, with the tilting and rigging in/out mechanism, equipped with its own hydraulic power unit, is arranged on a fin-box designed and built to be suitably connected to the hull.
The fin-box structure minimizes the displacement losses due to the housing recess of the retracted fin.
SF type
The unflapped non retractable SFO type and the fully flapped SFA type fin stabilizer systems are the result of fincantieri’s wide experience and technical capability in the naval shipbuilding field. The trapezoidal form fin is characterized by a NACA profile and designed according to the hull form, taking care to maintain, if possible, the aspect ratio over 1.3. The inside dimensions are reduced to a minimum as well as the total weight of the system;
Moreover, due to the absence of any recesses, no displacement loss occurs.
SS type
The SS stabilizers have been specifically designed by Fincantieri to be fitted to high speed commercial and naval vessels and are especially effective when keeping ability of stabilizing at slow speed, (high fin surface) must be coupled to minimum hull opening and drag at high speed.
