Fincantieri Marine Systems has a long experience in design, supply, installation and service of special equipment for marine industry both merchant and naval. In addition to this the long experience made by Fincantieri on off-shore platform repair and build gives to Fincantieri Marine System the necessary know how and skills to provide turnkey projects for Marine Terminals for loading and offloading of OIL & GAS products. Fincantieri supplies up-to-date Marine Terminals and/or makes upgrading and/or repair of critical components of existing ones. The Typical activities are:
1. Site studies and terminal simulation
• To determine the optimal location of a marine terminal, and to verify the required throughput capacity, Fincantieri performs simulation studies. Analysis is done to determine the effect on terminal efficiency of tanker transit times, displacement, DWT as it is influenced by sea conditions and operating procedures.
• Fincantieri determines the siting of a marine terminal based on the results of hydrographic / seabed surveys and studies of expected tanker size distribution to define the design draft, and vessel access and maneuvering considerations to define mooring and maneuvering area, safety of sail and anchorage areas. In addition, routing of the pipeline and locating the pipeline end manifold (PLEM) are significant factors in siting type terminals.
2. Mooring system evaluations
• Fincantieri is able to perform comparative assessments of alternate mooring systems or terminal configurations. Having determined the number of berths and/or moorings needed to assure a certain throughput capacity, the choice depends mainly on exposure to waves and currents, navigation access and depth, as well as the range of tanker sizes and products to be handled.
• Fincantieri can offer / supply different types of SPM moorings, including CALM, SALM. Each one has its own characteristics, and evaluation and design are done using software for analysis of moorings, underbuoy hoses, floating hoses, flexible risers, and mooring hawsers.
3. Basic design and drafting
Fincantieri design of terminals typically includes the following work elements:
• Buoy hydrodynamic and structural design
• Anchoring and Mooring analysis
• Piping, swivels, fluid system design
4. Procurement & construction
5. Installation and commissioning supervision
6. Project management
7. Quality control
8. Additional studies and services
Beyond design and construction management services, Fincantieri provides technical expertise in monitoring systems design, development of operating and maintenance procedures and anti-pollution precautions.
Other special support Fincantieri can offer includes risk and environmental impact studies.
Assistance during start-up and operation of terminal facilities, and in training of operating staff.
