Active fin stabilizers are normally used to reduce the roll that a vessel experiences while under way. This in both Naval and Civil application.
Fincantieri Marine Systems has more than forty years of experience in the design and manufacturing of fin stabilizer systems. This long experience results in the development of a wide range of stabilizers that can perform optimum roll reduction at designed speed, high reliability and minimum noise and vibration. Fincantieri fin stabilizer systems can meet any particular customer requirements as the systems include a great variety of choices in relation to vessel shape, speed, positioning of the stabilizer fins, dimensions and Owner’s preferences.

Fincantieri designs and manufactures a wide range of fin stabilizers for both merchant and naval vessels, including:

• Retractable f.s. (type sr) with fin surface from 2 m² up to 22 m²
  - with or without flaps;
  - with rigging-out (aft-and-fore or fore-and-aft)
• Fixed f.s. (type sf) with surface fin from 1,3 m² up to 18 m²
• Sliding f.s. (type ss) with surface fin from 3 m² up to 10 m²

Fincantieri has the know-how to design and engineer the anti-shock stabilizing systems for naval applications (resistance in case of underwater explosion).
Fincantieri references in stabilization systems include: Aircraft carriers, Destroyers, Frigates, Corvettes, LPDs, OPVs, Patrol boats, Auxiliary Vessels, Cruise ships, Ferries, Fast Ferries, Mega Yachts.

The Ride Control System consists of a control system that operates transom mounted controlling surfaces (interceptors) and stabilizing active fins. These hydraulically operated devices maintain optimum platform trim and reduce accelerations due to pitch, roll and heave motions of the vessel. The RCS has been successfully installed on Tirrenia and Gotland fast ferries.

Fincantieri can directly supply the following components:

• Fin stabilisers
• Rudder rolls
• Steering gears
• T-foils
• Control systems

Fincantieri is the Single Source Vendor for the Ride Control System for the US Navy LCS -1 (USS Freedom)
